July 8, 2000   Nevrona Attends Borland Conference 2000 in San Diego, California.

We are back from Borland Conference 2000 held in San Diego July 8th through 12th. Over all, we would have to describe our experience as phenomenal. Nevrona Designs had a great conference! Our technical guys learned great tips in the various instructional sessions, our vendor showcase conducted by Jim Gunkel and Chad Hower was VERY well received, the technical session conducted by Chad 'Kudzu' Hower was standing room only and had to have a second session added. The feedback from people stopping by our snazzy new booth was very encouraging. Of course there was great interest in Rave Reports 4.0 (formerly ReportPrinter Pro), especially in the webbased reporting capabilities and PDF output. People were jazzed to learn more about ND-IntraWeb, our tool for getting a Delphi application on the web. Live demonstrations of ND-IntraWeb had people shaking their heads saying things like "that is so easy, I can use that today" and "I was sent to this conference to look for something to rapidly get my app on the web and ND-IntraWeb is exactlty that product!" Hearing comments like these was very exciting for those in the sales department, as you might imagine.

If you were in attendance at BorCon, you could not miss that we had a slot car race track set up in our booth. Who would have thought that so many programmers loved slot car racing? Many, many people stopped by our booth to try their hand at running the fastest, five lap time of the day. We gave away Nevrona Designs polo shirts to the four different "fastest of the day" winners, and a license of ReportPrinter Pro/Rave to the one "fastest of the conference". Khan Sibounheuang, a programmer and analyst with the Mason & Hanger Corporation in Amarillo, TX was the winner of the "fastest of the conference" and proudly took home his license of ReportPrinter Pro/Rave. Congratulations, Khan!

June 17, 2000   Nevrona Designs Goes Racing! On June 17, Jim Pitre, one of the directors here at Nevrona Designs, will embark upon the Race Across America, a 2975 mile long bicycle race from Oregon to Florida. Nevrona is co-sponsoring Pitre's ride and we wish him great success! See http://www.azcentral.com/sports/azetc/0607raam.shtml for a recent newspaper write-up.

Nevrona Designs is also helping to automate the process of tracking the racers through the course of the 10 day long event See www.raceacrossamerica.org for continuing updates on Pitre's and the other rider's progress.

June 16, 2000   Nevrona Server Enhancements

Update - We have the new server up but it will take a few days for the newsserver domain "news.nevrona.com" to be set correctly. In the meantime, you can access the Nevrona Designs newsgroups by replacing "news.nevrona.com" with "208.225.207.130" as the server name. The IntraWeb demos and all other aspects of the Nevrona server are back in full operation.

The Nevrona server is temporarily down. We are moving it to a higher speed, higher visibility location. We will keep you updated as to when it will be back on line. This does not, obviously, affect our web page as you are currently viewing it. It does, however, apply to the IntraWeb demos and the newsgroups. Thank you for your patience.

 October 1, 1999   ND-Winshoes Announced

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - October 1st, 1999

Nevrona Designs is announcing ND-Winshoes, a product based on the popular open source Internet component suite, Winshoes. Nevrona Designs' extensive experience with Winshoes will allow them to provide enhanced technical support, documentation and consulting services for Winshoes in a manner similar to the services that Red Hat and other vendors provide for the open source operating system, Linux.

The enhanced documentation and examples for ND-Winshoes will be released under the same open source license as Winshoes and will be available for free download from the Nevrona Designs web site (www.nevrona.com) as they become available. Technical support will be provided through three different plans on an annual subscription.

  • Level 1 - $49 - Access to private support forums
  • Level 2 - $99 - Level 1 + email tech support
  • Level 3 - $249 - Level 2 + telephone technical support

Nevrona Designs president, Jim Gunkel, believes that we've only just begun to see the possibilities that Internet development will allow. Jim stated, "The Internet is already an integral part of daily business life, challenging software developers with a whole new group of problems as they try to tackle Internet programming. Through its easy-to-use yet powerful library and its open source license, Winshoes has quickly become the Internet tool of choice for Delphi and C++Builder programmers.

"Open source projects such as Winshoes are great for the timely addition of features and bug fixes, but the technical support and documentation that professional developers need is often not there. With ND-Winshoes, we will be providing much needed help for those who are just getting started with Internet programming as well as uncovering the hidden power of Winshoes for the experienced developer."

Chad Hower, better known as Kudzu on the public forums, is the creator of Winshoes and has recently joined the Nevrona Designs development team. Chad had this to say about ND-Winshoes, "As the original author and current project coordinator I've had many requests from developers whose corporation requires a corporate entity backing in order to use an open source product. Also, from both corporations and individuals I've had requests for timely, professional technical support. ND-Winshoes solves both of these issues, and at the same time will further advance the product by contributing documentation, support and development back into the open source Winshoes community."

For more information about the Open Source Winshoes project visit http://www.pbe.com/SourceWorks/Winshoes or contact kudzu@pbe.com.

To order ND-Winshoes or for more information about Nevrona Designs and their line of programming tools visit http://www.nevrona.com or contact info@nevrona.com.

April 8, 1999   Team Nevrona Welcomes Two New Members

We're happy to welcome two new members to Team Nevrona, Derrick Thomas and Scott Kane. They join the other helpful members of Team Nevrona, Glenn Crouch, John Metzker and John Truchon, to help make the Nevrona Designs user community a better place. For more information about Team Nevrona, click here.

April 7, 1999   Online Nevrona Forums Started

We've decided to make the big switch from a mailing list to a web-based discussion forum. We have these new forums now available on our web site (click on the Nevrona Forums link on the navigation bar). There were several reasons we decided to go this route rather than continue with the mailing list or newsgroups.

  • Mailing lists are not searchable/archived, many people don't like getting lots of email every day and the threads are disjointed and sometimes hard to follow from day to day.
  • Newsgroups are very popular but the readers can be tricky to configure for custom servers. Because of this it discourages the casual reader and most readers require you to download the entire message base to perform searches. Newsgroup servers are also difficult for us to maintain and the content may not be easily transferrable if we switch servers or OS's. It's also difficult to set up private newsgroups which is a feature we were looking for. Lastly, many users do not have newsgroup access at work because of firewall limitations while just about everyone has web access.

We evaluated several different web based forums and decided upon UlitimateBB (www.ultimatebb.com) which has a very clean look and many nice features. The product is updated frequently so new features are being added all the time whereas newsgroups and mailing lists pretty much stay the same.

After April 11th, we'll be terminating the RPPro, RaveRant, AdHocery and Propel mailing lists and going entirely to the web based forums for our discussion lists (anyway, our web site is so much nicer to look at now ). The NDNews mailing list will continue to act as a medium for sending announcements to users that don't have time to visit our web site or forums, but still want to know important information about Nevrona Designs.

One nice feature of the web forums is that we have more granularity for the topics of each forum and we also have a TechLib forum for each product that will contain useful technical articles. So stop by and take a look at the format and check out the features. Whether you're a lurker or an active member, I think you'll find configuration options that will make it easy to access the information that you need in an easier manner than mailing lists or newsgroups.

March 16, 1999 ReportPrinter Pro 3.0 / Rave Training Sessions

In cooperation with GenoTechs, Inc., we're going to be holding a training session on the new Rave visual designer on April 19th and 20th. This first training session will be performed by the staff of Nevrona Designs. After this first session, GenoTechs will be creating training materials and hosting additional training sessions themselves.

This first session will be geared towards programmer level use of Rave. GenoTechs, however, plans on providing two levels of training, one for programmers and one for end users. So if you include the Rave designer with your application, your customers will be able to get professional training on how to use Rave to create their own reports.

Since this is the first time, GenoTechs is offering special pricing on the two day session, so if you are going to do this, now is the time. Hurry, space is limited and it's only a month away but flight and hotel reservations should still be available. For more information or to reserve your place for this training session contact:
